The rule of thirds and of 20/80 are often well suited to landscape.
There is good detail in the sky here, but could have benefited from a graduated filter to bring more contrast into the clouds and enhanced the bit of blue in the sky; this would have added some real punch to the image.
The foreground would have benefited from some form of significant foreground interest, its good to look about, if there is for instance a interesting rock nearby that could fit into a bottom third corner it would enhance the overall image.
Compositionally this is almost 50/50, I would have been looking for 2/3 sky or 2/3 land, looking at the nice clouds here maybe a 2/3 sky composition would be good.
The other popular composition would have been 20/80, where you have a 20%/80% split sky/land or land/sky instead of thirds.
It’s a shame there isn’t a bit more light in the foreground, but you have what you have, you can only shoot what is in front of you.
The exposure is good, no blown highlights or blocked shadows but does lack a little contrast, an easy fix in the darkroom or with levels and or curves in a photo editing program.
It’s a lovely scene, and somewhere I would like to see for myself, but visually for me its average, no papering over the cracks, I’m not going to tell you its great when I don’t believe so, just my honest opinion, a little harsh maybe. In better light this could very likely have a lot of punch.
One if the tricks of landscape it to wait for the right light, if that’s not possible shoot it anyway for the sake of record keeping and return again and again until you have nailed it (or get a tent and wait) ha ha kidding
I wrote yesterday on someone else’s upload, landscape is about waiting, one on my own favourites took 3 years and 9 visits until I was happy (well almost) with it.
True Landscape is maybe more than a style, it’s probably a way of life.
